Gigantesca oruga azul

Siempre me ha gustado cómo The Gathering meten, de vez en cuando, algún corte de audio algo misterioso en sus canciones. Esta vez me he encontrado con un fragmento de Alicia en el País de las Maravillas:



El fragmento que leen al final de la canción es éste:

There was a large mushroom growing near her, about the same height as herself; and when she had looked under it, and on both sides of it, and behind it, it occurred to her that she might as well look and see what was on the top of it.

She stretched herself up on tiptoe, and peeped over the edge of the mushroom, and her eyes immediately met those of a large blue caterpillar, that was sitting on the top with its arms folded, quietly smoking a long hookah, at last the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth, and addressed her in a languid, sleepy voice.

`Who are YOU?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'

Traducido, quedaría algo como:

Había una gran seta que crecía allí cerca, más o menos de su misma estatura; y cuando hubo mirado bajo ella, y a ambos lados de ella, y detrás de ella, se le ocurrió que quizá debería también empinarse y mirar lo que había encima de ella.

Se alzó de puntillas y echó un vistazo sobre el borde de la seta, y sus ojos inmediatamente conocieron los de una gigantesca oruga azul, que se sentaba en la cima con sus brazos cruzados, fumando tranquilamente de un largo narguile, hasta que la Oruga sacó el narguile de su boca y le habló con una voz lánguida y somnolienta.

"¿Quién eres TÚ?", dijo la Oruga. Esto no era una alentadora invitación a conversar. Alicia respondió, algo tímida: "Yo... no estoy segura, señor, al menos ahora... sólo sé quién ERA cuando me levanté esta mañana, pero creo que debo haber cambiado muchas veces desde entonces".
